A long overdue "hello"

Discussion in 'Introductions' started by Janey, Feb 7, 2016.

  1. Morning All,

After lurking in the background for well over a year, I've finally got around to saying hello! I do have slight alterior motives for this - I'm moving to South Oxon (near H's) in the very near and I'm after some new rideout mates, as I'm going to have to ditch London Bikers because of the logistics. I'm so fickle!

Bike wise, my first big bike after a couple of 400s was an '07 675 in sexy black. That was literally ridden to destruction before it was used as a deposit on an ex demo '13 plate new toy. We've had a bit of a rocky relationship, but we seem to be getting on ok now

I've done a few track days on both bikes - not altogether successfully. I binned the new bike a couple of months after getting it and managed to put a hole in the engine and get kitty litter inside. Apparently this is not a good thing to do to a bike! Other than the huge repair bill, the worst bit is that I've now totally lost my go - fast bottle and I now prefer rideouts rather than time on track

Hope to see some of you out on the roads soon (when it's warm and dry enough for my fairweather wussy arse to get the bike out of the garage, that is!).

Welcome in enjoy the site. Lots of riders near your new area so watch out for ride out's when the weather gets better

  4. Hey Janey

Welcome along, nice to have another girl (our numbers are growing - yippee!!!) I do hope I've got that right but your username implies so (sorry if not).

Sorry to hear of your loss of fast mojo. It's quite a common thing especially for us girls (boys seem to pick themselves up a bit better). I do a lot of track days and have been through the whole loss of mojo, wanting to give up track days myself in the past, but got through it and am so glad I did as they are once again all brill :D

Why not come along to the forum track day at Cadwell in July, take it easy and have some fun. I'll be there so if you want someone to have a chat to about how to hopefully try to sort things out I'm more than happy to try to help.

    Welcome in

    welcome in.
as well as the forum trackday we have the forum rideout weekend in july, the 675 fest.
dig out the thread and book yourself in for that too!

  6. I am most definitely, 100% girl, so no gender faux pas there. I'd love to meet the bloke that calls himself that :p

I've done a couple of track days since, but I just haven't enjoyed it and ended up leaving early both times, quietly trying to sneak off and hoping that no one would notice (fat chance).

I've got my California Level 2 booked for June, so I'm hoping that will help me find my lost mojo. After the Level 1, I felt more comfortable on the bike than I had done for ages. I think project 2016 is going to be getting out on the bike more and trying to relax!!!

  7. Hi and welcome to the forum. I had a similar experience to yours with putting a hole in the alternator cover and absolutely filling the inside out f my casing with wet mud Which resulted in taking off the sump to check nothing had got deeper inside the engine. I'm surprised you prefer ride outs now to trackdays for me it's the other way around but each to their own I guess. Crashing is all about understanding why it happened and in my case I was being a complete tw*t in the wet Hope you enjoy the forum

  8. Welcome in, I am sure you will be back up to speed in no time. I guess the thing about crashing is knowing why it happened, if you are confident you know what you did wrong then it goes a long way towards making sure it doesn't happen again. Maybe we will see you along at the Cadwell Park trackway in June (13th/14th). I for one am looking forward too it!

  9. I know exactly what what happened - I listened to the shit instructions from my so called instructor and tried doing something that I was uncomfortable with and intuitively knew was going to hurt. But like a muppet I still done it... And it did hurt! I realise that sounds like I'm blaming someone else - I'm not. I'm very capable and quite well practised in messing up all on my own.

Yeah, it's a painful and expensive way to learn things but god, those lessons stick!

Welcome to our friendly little forum Janney, I hope you'll enjoy our mix of helpful advice & friendly banter.
Sorry to hear about your little off. Fwiw it always takes me a while to get my confidence back after an off, but it always does come back eventually. Taking time to relax & enjoy the riding, instead of constantly pushing boundarys works best for me.
Would be great if you could join us at the Forum Trackday, but if your just in road-mode then the Fest is very popular indeed.

there is also the black & white bikes novice day in may that might help your mojo? some of us are on that too.
nothing like a normal track day

  12. Nice intro and I'm interested in hearing about your 400's too :)
having an off here and there on the track isn't something that you be wary of but think of it as part of the learning process as we've all been there I assure you.
Practice makes perfect and if finances allows it, get a dedicated track toy...

Welcome in Janey nice place this. I've managed to fall off both on road and track a couple of times, mixing ambition and talent in the wrong ratio. Obviously you've had your confidence knocked. That comes back though. Enjoy it either way.

  14. Ah... Finances... The bane of my life! I'd seriously LOVE a track missile and a road bike, but sadly I'm in a poorly paid profession and on top of that I'm taking a huge drop in pay in order to move to beautiful Oxfordshire. So my whinge for the foreseeable is going to be, I can't afford it. Bah.

The novice track day is @ Caldwell, isn't it? I'll look into it but tbh, it's probably too far to tempt me.

My first bike was a pristine lil' FZR 400. Then I got my hands on it and it didn't stay pristine for long! I could fill several pages of Twat nominations with my learning curve on the poor thing. After that was written off by someone parking their car into me, I moved on to an RVF 400. What started out as an totally original spec bike ended up as a GP replica with a full Tyga transformation. Mmmmmmm, that was pretty but that was also my deposit for a Triumph. A decent sacrifice, I'd say.

  15. RVF you say mmm - got any photo's or parts left over as I have a bit of thing for them?
Track time and more track time will work wonders for confidence and ability but do it at your pace, easy said then done as it's always important to beat your mate isn't it :)

  16. My (very limited) life in bikes, and a little bit of 400cc porn for those that way inclined :

Hi janey, nice intro, glad you've joined 675.cc here. London schmondon...oxfordshire's beaut, so is wilts. Get out for coffee...looking forward to catching up with you in the sun one day! :) RC 45 looking treat, dreamy!

  19. Wilts is lovely (although not as lovely as Oxon, obviously ;)) and having a big bruv who lives on the Wilts / Dorset border is a well used excuse to get down that way. In the summer... In the dry... Compton Abbas Airfield has got a great cafe and Zigzag Hill to play with.

Red675 - I do feel like I'm admitting something akin to kiddie fiddling at tines when I say that I LIKE ROAD RIDING and at this point in my life I prefer it to track and quite enjoy the occasional sedate moment. There, I've said it. Please everyone, don't hate me for it. LoL.

    Janey,

I love road riding too. I love the adventure, the feeling of freedom, getting lost, having fun. It can be frustrating sometimes if you can't get in a rhythm, if there's too much traffic, but I love it.

One of the downsides of a sportsbike is that we sometimes we get a bit caught up in faster, lighter, racier.... I occasionally do track days, and find sometimes it all feels a bit serious. Some people there take it very seriously indeed, which can be intimidating. I'm not a racer, my livelihood doesn't depend on going 0.3 seconds a lap quicker. I think we can be guilty of losing the whole point of why we're there - fun times!

Keep riding, and more important than anything, keep having FUN!

    Oh, and welcome!
