You may of seen thread on face book but T3 told me that the new 765 engine will fit straight into my 2006 Daytona frame. Anyone looked into this at all.
There is a thread on another forum regarding changing the crank in a 13 engine to 765 so that's been done, wasn't sure about the engine swap although sounds entirely do-able
My 2006 Daytona has 112 bhp at back wheel and it's a stock engine. 06 - 09 = 123bhp 09 - 12 = 126bhp 13 on = 126 bhp From internet
You'll get an extra 10bhp then. Because the 765 is quoted at 121. But that's because Triumph are embarrassed that it makes almost Speed Triple power. It's been measured as 121+ at the back wheel.
The 765 RS did feel faster than my Daytona on the test ride but could not tell if it was because it had not fairing
What are the torque figures like in comparison? Be interesting to know what the 765 is putting out with some basic tuning, decat remap etc
I know that while the power figures aren't miles different the 765 makes that power 1500rpm lower so I would bet on it having a much wider torque spread
I rode the RS and wasn't impressed with the engine , my Daytona would spin up to 130mph in no time the RS took an age and I didn't find a road long enough to get anywhere near it. I spent a lot of money on my trackbike 675R and I got 124 at the rear wheel and it was a missile not the words I would use about the 765.
I've been discussing this with another forum member, there is a lot of commonality been the engines so a 765/Daytona hybrid (think moto2 parts bin) is on the cards. Only issue is the cost of a 765 engine to start from, will be a few years before it makes finanical sense over tuning a Daytona engine. I'll be aiming for 130+ at the back wheel but super reliable to keep costs down. As Gary pointed out he spent alot of money to get to 124bhp and compared to a superstock motor that costs a fortune in the first place and needs rebuilding circa 1000miles it could be a decent option for trackdays.
I ride the 765 RS the other day. I loved the bike, and if I could afford two, I may track the Daytona and have the street for the street. But no, I didn't feel it was anywhere as rapid as my Daytona. Didn't go over 140 as no fairing. Also my Daytona is decat deexup, and tuned to 121hp at rear wheel. I like the wider bars, reminds me of my buell, and just felt somehow easier or quicker to swerve round cars. Maybe due to wider bars, ohlins suspension, or maybe I was just at a lower speed than I would have been on the Daytona... I also wondered about engine swap, but by the time you've paid for all the parts etc, it would be very ££££
I've been told from a trusted source that they've ran that motor in the factory completely stock other than a 13+ arrow full system & achieved 140bhp. In all honesty tho that's what you'd expect being nearly 800cc baring in mind current 1000s are 200bhp+ out the crate
I don't doubt that, I've heard similar but it had a few extra bits on it. Only (main) issue I see if you are aiming for big numbers is the rev limit, as they stroked it to get the cc up the rev limit is restricted by max piston speed. But a reliable 140-150bhp in an 09-12 chassis would be spot on for me.
If T3 said it will fit then it will. If all they have done is stroke the engine then it will be the exact same casings. The stroking trick is and tuning idea they have used on zx7's and prob many more. I would guess as I've not ridden one that they feel lazy to ride
They have bored it too. the 675 was always bore of 74mm, with the daytona only 2013 going to 76, which has turned into the 765 as 78mm. The stroke was 52.3, changed to 49.6 and now 53.4mm. The 765's rev limit of 12,650 gives mean piston speed of 22.1 m/s - so does that mean the absolute maximum of 24m/s would be at 13,737?
Just been reading that the 765 engines triumph will supply for moto 2 will leave triumph as standard engines then another company spec them out for the moto2 boys making sure they are all the same.
