1050 Throttle mod

Discussion in 'General' started by Trinity, Mar 10, 2010.

  1. Woweee !!!

What a difference the 1050 throttle makes.

Makes it feel like you have an extra 15-20 more ponies. Its a transformation, so much nicer to ride.

Well worth it and so easy to fit, no messing with idle adjusters or anything on mine, although the clamp mechanism needed some PTFE dry lub to free it up a bit after reassembly.

I've also done the Clip On handle bar flip as well ...... oh, and a pair of HID's with LED sidelamps and Eclipze's HID delay module imported from Australia.

    Been a busy boy today.

The bars are alot comfier in terms of riding position and reduced wrist ache (my primary reason for the swap) but they will take me a LONG time to get used to. I ride a mate's 600RR into work 1-2 days a week in between the 675 and it's really interesting to feel the differences.

    Richard.

  2. I also did the 1050 throttle change, feels great. This should be standard.
Be interested to know more about the HID and LED side lamps, how different and how much?

    Cheers

  3. Hi Jason.

I really should raise a new post to answer your question about the HIDs, so apologies if this is a thread jack.

I did alot of research first before purchasing my 35W slimline ballast 6000K HID's but eventually settled on a package from 'triumph-online' here in the UK. Fast efficient friendly service. I've also fitted Ecliptech's HID delay module to the dip beam bulb which now automatically strikes it's arc about 18 seconds after the ignition is switched on, very cool to watch ! But in terms of practicality, this will help to eliminate reduced bulb life due to power off to the standard bulb upon firing the motor.

Am very very impressed with the revelation of more bright, crisp white light ! The standard LH dip lense has a striking beam cut-off pattern for the dip light which is good as it stops dazzle for other drivers.

    Edit - 24 Oct 10: Link to my HID fitting post: <a class="postlink" href="https://www.675.cc/675/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3748">https://www.675.cc/675/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3748</a>

The main beam is just mind blowing. I can illuminate the neighbours front doors to their houses just about half a mile away, and make out their letterboxes and door knockers - just amazing.

But, that all said, if you're gonna do a HID conversion, you need to assure yourself that you have done your research before buying and fitting. Just like a race can, these HIDs are something that you might have to convert back to get the bike MOT'd or dealer serviced !

The gel seat, throttle and HID's have just transformed my bike. stunning.

I've thought about that mod. But never gone forward. So I'd be interested, cheers. Look forward to the post, no rush.

Been running LED side lights or marker lights as Darren would call em for three years. On my third RH bulb now! Bought mine off fleabay. Never again. The latest bulbs are from a local auto electrics shop and I'm told UK made. Hence the double price tag. Fingers crossed these last longer. Great mod.

There is a guy who makes led stuff I'm sure if we asked him he could make some for us his website of I'm. Not mistaken is
Crazyleds.co.uk I will find out later of I get a chance. I have used him in the past as he makes car dash conversion kits and any failures he replaces free of charge within a couple of years.
Like I say I will get more details given a big enough order he will discount for group buys.

This is simply taking the clip on from the right side and mounting it on the left side and vice versa. Its supposed to ease the wrist ache due the changed riding posistion. As for the pros and cons, I'm not sure :? . Personally I'm going for the Helibar conversion (just waiting for my 38mm socket to arrive) :)

  12. Sorry for the thread jack, it wasn't intentional.

But ..... yes mate, as has been said, left clip-on to the right, right clip on to the left.

Raises the lower end of each bar by about 1.5 inches, reduces the angle from about 9 degrees to 2 degrees in an attempt to reduce wrist ache.

Lots of discussion on this mod over on http://www.Triumph675.net so I thought I'd give it a go before forking out on the Helibars conversion.

    Here's a good link to a 10 page thread on the subject ! : http://www.triumph675.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11636

I will say, the repositioned bars did reduce wrist ache, but did not eradicate it for me as I'd hoped.

Combined with the fact that the bars are too flat for my liking and make turning-in the bike a bit too sensitive and unweildy (almost like the bike wants to fall over on a lowside every time you take a fast bend), I've decided to switch them back after the brekkie morning at Fowlers on Sunday :( .

The swap just hasn't done it for me. All the fantastic handling provided by the bars in their standard position has been lost.

I'll be interested to see how the Helibars conversion goes - full write up please JimJam !

    Cheers.

  13. aha i see but i dont get too much wrist ache anymore im slowly becoming immune to it  thanks have been given ;)

  14. <<<< is loving his recently modded throttle tube

  15. loads of info and comments saying how good this mod is, so looks like I've found my first job :D

  16. Yep.

Real easy - just buy the ST 1050 throttle for about £9 then make a cuppa tea.

By the time you're done, your tea will still be hot enough to drink.

Any probs, drop me a PM and I'll pop over.

Good luck buddy - it's a real transformation.

    Richard.

  17. Thanks boggy......haven't got a huge amount of experience of working on bikes so I'll bear that in mind......sounds like a easy job so gonna get part ordered soon. Did you get yours from fowlers?

TBH mate most dealers have some of these parts in their spares bin. ST owners like heated grips and most get fitted from new so these throttle tubes are removed and as new. I got mine from Jack Lilleys for £5 from the spares bin. Even has the same grip on it as the 675. Worth an ask as they might just give you it foc.
