I heard a tip that you can fit a throttle tube fom a 1050 and it will act like a quick action throttle on the 675, does anyone know if that is true??
Yup 100% true, my track 675 has this very mod. Go to a triumph parts seller and ask for the throttle tube for a 1050 Sprint or speed triple, it should cost about £7-ish and if you search the forum there's probably an account of it being done. It cuts all the slack out of the throttle action, very good for track or fast road. DG P.S sometimes the Bike mech's keep em after they fitted heated grips to a Sprint ST, worth a try at the workshop back door.
How does this mod feel to ride mate? Does it not make things a little snatchy? Currently my bike has a little play in the throttle which I'm told is supposed to be there but it drives me nuts. Maybe this is the perfect solution for me then. Cheers Steve
Mind you thought for the princely sum of £7-ish it may be worth a try just to see if you prefer it or not right? Steve
It's definitely worth a go, if you're a bit ham handed generally you may find it snatchy when feathering the throttle on mid-corner, but if the chain isn't slack and you are smooth it'll be fine. Triumph reckon on waaay too much slack on the twistgrip for my own personal taste, so I had adjusted the slack out using the cable adjusters under the handlebar within a week of taking delivery of my first 675, I just couldn't ride it like that. As long as you use the correct adjuster, and don't make either cable run tight, it helps obtain that precision feel you would expect, and the throttle won't stick on full lock either. The 1050 twistgrip does require setting up, but the hardest part is using the correct screwdriver end bit size! Go for it!
DeeGee, is it a simple thing to do then? as when i looked in the manual for the adjustment it described a far more complicated procedure...... that put me off and i just thought "fek it, i'll put up with it" :?
Yes it's pretty simple, the book tells you to adjust it at the engine end, monitor the clearances and to ensure that the cables don't overtighten. Hmmm.... All I did ( original throttle tube) was to lengthen the adjuster that was slack (handlebar end) when I held the throttle hard against the zero throttle/idle stop, left a little bit of slack 1-2mm, and tightened it all up after. Easy.
Will that same throttle tube work on a 650??? ...the standard unit has about a 180 degree arc, which means I have to change my grip...can be a little frustrating!
Haven't heard of it being done to a 650, but most of the trumpy stuff is generic so you might stand a chance. For 10 bucks it's worth a go. Of course you could always buy a 675 - it's a guaranteed thing then....
If you wade through all the pages on Bikebandit.com you'll be able to get all the part numbers and check everything out. Here's a link to the 675 08 Parts cat. http://www.bikebandit.com/2008-triumph- ... 5/o/m17638
im looking at doing this and have seen a throttle tube on fleabay for cheap. The question i have is that is it only the 1050 st unit that works or does the sprint unit havethe same effect. From what i can gather over at triumph.net the sprint tube doesnt work, does anyone have clarification?
have had this mod done and it is defo better than standard. BUT within the next few weeks [next service] i am going to have an R1 tube fitted about half the twist of the original with this one. twist one next time you see one and feel the difference. Rich
Have you guys thinking of doing this read this post?? http://www.triumph675.net/forum/showthr ... 537&page=2 There's some pic's halfway down showing the difference in movement between stock 675, a domino race grip, and a 1050 S3 grip. Makes quite an interesting read. Me personally I'm undecided whether to have a crack at this or not. I'm gonna ask next time I'm in the dealer whether they have a throttle tube for a speed trip/Sprint 1050 in and give it a go probably, might just take the slack out of the current one first though as that does drive me NUTS!!! Steve
Hi, bought a 1050 throttle tube, fitted that no problems, however I cant work out how to adjust the throttle cable to get the correct amount of slack. At the moment its got no play at all and with the handle bars turned to the right the throttle sticks open when released. Any help appreciated
