Bought this little Suzuki GS400 a couple of wks ago. Been after a little project for a while and saw this advertised as a non runner project. A previous owner has made their own attempt at converting it into a cafe racer. Let's just say that it's not the best attempt but saying that it has some nice things on it that I most likely would of bought anyway. Hopefully I can improve on the build quality a little and turn it into a nice little run around. Good news is I got it running within a couple of hrs of it being delivered. I'll post up a few pics of what I've found and what I do image.png

image.jpeg Few pics of what I've been up to. Cut and widened the seat at the front to suit the tank better. This is just a test to see if it could be done and the mounting points have been drilled out so I've got another one on order. When I got it there was a speedo only so I've added a new one and a rev counter, plus I've had to cut and weld the mounting bracket as these are from a different model. Lowered them also to decrease the gap between them and the headlight to neaten things up a little. Fitted another headlight and new mounting brackets. Cut the hoop off at the back that had been welded on using the wrong diameter tube and didn't follow the seat far enough back. Got another hoop that fits much better so next step is to get this welded in now I know how I'm going to be mounting the seat. I'll show the pics of the handy work carried out under the seat (Not by me) 3_20210131_141834.jpg 2_20210213_162051.jpg 0_20210213_162036.jpg 5_IMG-20210130-WA0005.jpeg

Is that a lithium battery to save weight but huge big bits of metal used for the seat fixing points

yes" I'm guessing the smaller diameter piece of tube they welded in does the same job

Nice one mate. I'm enjoying it to be fair, I looked for ages before I got this and I was in 2 minds knowing that someone else had done the work before me and it was a bit of a gamble with it not being a runner. Even though the work carried out is quite poor I'm not disappointed with it at all, as it can all be put right it just takes time and patience. Been looking into wiring looms and on the older bikes they are fairly basic so I think I'm going to start from scratch and build one to fit the bike and where I decide to place everything. Look forward to hearing what you get.

IMG-20210224-WA0008.jpg IMG-20210223-WA0002.jpg Bit more progress. New hoop welded in and cardboard templates made for trays under the seat. New seat arrived today, think black looks better. Made it fit the shape of the hoop at the back, need to widen it at the front to fit the tank better and get it recovered. Anyone know a good trimmer

Bit of an update. Seat done, electrics in and connected, will use for a bit to see if any issues before Tapeing up properly. Painted rear of the frame tempariliy until I do it properly over winter. Found a really good trimmer to do the seat for me and I'm really pleased with the result. Bike is now on the road after a few gremlins with charging and a fuel starvation issue which turned out to be the float bowl pushing the float closed due to a previous owner bending the float at the pivot point instead of the tag

Looking very tidy mate, well done identifying & resolving the gremlins.

Looks like that front mudguard could be a tad annoying if it rains whilst you're out & about on her.?
