I’ve currently got a Arai RX-7GP helmet and have been looking to replace it. My problem is that I can’t find a current model Arai that I like the look of....

My last 3x helmets have been Arai’s and always found them very comfortable.... can anyone recommend another brand similar to The Arai fitment that I can check out.

    Thanks.

I've found HJC to be similar to Arai.

I cant really help with Arai comparison as never had one but, I have had both Xlite and HJC carbon helmets and I prefer the Xlite I'd say it is marginly better in comfort and noise.

  5. I switched from xlite 802 to the aria rx7gp, the aria is so much quieter.

Shoei is what I would go for but its slightly different fitting

Steve I think a trip to Laguna in Maidstone?

They used to have a nice selection, and you really will need to try them, I’m like you, Arai fitment.

Glad you said that regarding the Shoei, I had one years ago and it used to pinch my temples and give me a headache if I wore it for more that 15 / 20 minutes! Sounds like they’ve not changed!

Steve, Groombridges have a good selection and you can always get them to knock some cash off. only a few minutes up the road from you at work too.

Shoei fit me great but i can't where a arai for long at all.

Went from an Arai to a Suomy.

Fitment was in the same ballpark but the Suomy is much lighter. The interior cloths are a little softer. Can't comment on noise as I always wear plugs, but overall I'd say it's a fair bit 'calmer' around the vents.

Another vote for xlite from me.
Was a long time shoie user but they just got too expensive for me, changed to x lite x802r and really can't fault it, it's 4yrs old now and will be replaced at the end of this year with another x lite.

  16. These threads come up from time to time and it’s always a bit like tyre and oil threads. I worked for a few years in a motorcycle clothing shop and honesty other than getting a good brand the two most important things are A) the fit, and B) the use of the helmet.

The amount of times I hear ‘oh I won’t try a Shoei, I’m not a Shoei head’ and it was so frustrating because my helmet is an X-spirit 2 and fits amazingly, I also had an xr1000 and an interceptor, but I tried a Shoei ‘xceed’ years ago and it hurt me.

So... try them all on, Xlite are great, Shoei, Arai and get a feel for what fits, then narrow it down.

Also, there is NO point in buying a RX7 or X-Spirit and then bitching about it being a noisy helmet!!! It will be, it’s designed to move as much air as possible through the shell. So think carefully about this.

Personally I would look at an Xlite now because the shells seem nice and small, and the fit was superb.

Above all else... and Farmer1 will agree with this, you can wear a yoghurt pot as long as it has a James Haydon replica paint job on it ;-) (jokes)

Shoei X Spirit 3 for me, I have 2 of them I find them so much more comfortable than the Arai. I do have an Arai GP-7v as well in the Nicky Haydon colours however the Shoei feels lighter and its far easier to get my glasses on than the Arai.
I was always an Arai man up until I tried the Shoei XR1100 a few years back
