Hey all, wondering if anyone recommends any good covers for the winter? I have a cheap one but the bike is often damn/wet under it and with winter coming I want something to protect the bike as much as possible. Stormex one sounds/looks good but its pretty pricey - anyone recommend any that are similar/as good but cheaper?
I have the Oxford rainex and it's been pretty good. Ride magazine actually rated it higher than the stormex.
Anyone tried the R&G Superbike cover? Supposedly it got the highest rating by Ride magazine and its fairly cheap. It doesn't seem to have the same inner lining that the Rainex has though so with winter coming up I'm not sure if it'll keep the bike as warm and stop it freezing as much? Anyone know at all?
I've had a few over the years, & have to say that the Stormex I brought about a year ago is far better than any I have had before. ( Although also far more expensive though, to be fair)
I've heard a bunch of people say that the Rainex got better reviews and is just as good and the R&G one supposedly was rated higher by Ride than both of them.
I've got the r&g superbike cover and don't really rate it. It's ok but I'm changing to a stormex before proper winter i think.
So it doesn't really keep the bike warm at all? Take it its just like a 'normal' bike cover then? And as for proper winter - you talkin about last month? lol
Yeah it's got no lining or anything, just a small patch that seems to be there to protect the seat for some reason. It keeps the weather off fine most of the time but this year is the first year i won't be garaging it and with the recent rain it's been letting moisture through a bit too much for my liking. I just wish I could get the bike stored somewhere tbh. And I'm down in sunny Cambridge where we've been avoiding the bad weather the rest of the country has been having!
One thing I have noticed with my Rainex cover is the red lining is starting to leave little bits of pink fluff on the bike when I take it off. It's easily brushed away but it's annoying. The cover is a couple of years old now.
i've got the R&G one, its not great but i guess it just about does the job with the exception that the seat still freezes over.
Just to complete this thread for future searchers - I finally gave in and bought the Stormex cover (got a not bad deal on it). JUST put it on the bike and it is a TIGHT fit. It's a medium and it only JUST fits. It wraps itself around the bike tight like a glove. A small would never fit. It is THICK and feels like you are wrapping your bike in a sleeping bag. It does NOT blow around in the wind like my cheap current one due to how tight it is. With my old one, if the clasp underneath was not on, the cover would blow off. With this one, the clip is just a precaution, the cover is so tight on the bike it wouldn't come off without someone working hard to take it off. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it - from the feel of it and how snugly it fits I'm going to say yes. As mentioned though, dont have years worth of experience on how well it lasts etc to speak from in terms of how long it lasts.
