Seeing some of the quotes people are paying for their bike insurance in the other thread made me think... Some of us have to consider the insurance cost whilst thinking about buying a new (different) bike. Personally, I wouldn't pay 2000 pounds to insure a vehicle, I'd buy something different (it's your money, so do as you please). What is your limit which you'd be willing to pay for insurance? 500 pounds per each for me personally, the highest I actually had to pay was 450 for the car when insurances shot up and 350 for a bike.
I'd love to say the maximum I would pay a year to insure the bike was £400 a year. Sadly at 25 trying to get bike insurance that low means I'd be riding a 125 since I lost my NCB. £1200 a year for a couple thousand miles seems high but still worth it. I don't even want to work out how much the thing cost's me per mile Enjoy it whilst I'm young and sprog free is my attitude.
I'd rather go without rather than pay stupid premiums. Paid £345 last year for my STriple, wouldn't have gone much higher. Fortunately I've never had to pay high prices mainly due to being in my 40's. Most I've paid was about £650 but that was multi-car between my new Impreza STI Prodrive and wife's Astra. Think I usually paid sub £500 for my Elise, that was really about my limit.
1200 smackers I would go up to....the most ive paid for a car was 1450quid that was high as it was half the value of the bloody car!! But ive always tried to aim for nice cars and bikes so screw it id be damed if I stop now! If Im looking into a car now most id paid is a grand after that it's to pricey. Bike 1200 as I obly have 1 yrs no claims but next year hoping less than a grand lol!
Seems a bit odd... I pay £120 for my camper van (even with a 2.7l Porsche 911 engine) agreed value of 15K, but £300 for the daytona, worth about 4K... Both are fast in the wrong hands, and both not noted for their security... (I personally think the van would cause more damage in an accident, and also cost more to repair.) Still, happy with the insurance prices!
Being only 20 years old I don't get much choice other than being frantically shafted by the bastards!! 2008 Daytona 675 (lots of mods declared) £1052 FC, 3yrs NCB 2000 Renault Clio 1.4 S 0NCB TPFT £1660...
£1300 for the MV, Triumph and Derbi on one policy with 4years no clams 3rd party fire and theft £400 fully comp for my ford fiesta MK7 1.25
I guess it's all based on statistics, rather than any intelligent thought having gone into it. I recently did some work for a large insurance company that own several smaller brands, looking at Amazon's EMR platform to process large datasets in parallel on the 'cloud' (I hate that word). Currently they don't have much in the way of fancy algorithms to work all this stuff out. They load about a months worth of data (as much as their setup can handle) into excel pivot tables! and generate reports from that.
before i set about all this motorcycle stuff i managed to save £6000 but that was to pay for everything including test and gear. so i had set myself a budget of 1500 for insurance on a street trip'r managed to get it for 1350 fully comp with all the bells and whistles. next year i want it <1000. as i will have 1 years NCB and 1 year riding experience. and will be 26+ but not sure how close i can get to that.
Was going to cost you a bit more than that if I didn't mention Aviva to you I pay under a grand now for my 2.2 Honda civic & bike. I always used to increase the additional excess to the max - works out well if you don't crash .
mine is about 280 fully comp for my forester turbo. Not bad for my age I don't think. Bike was about 350 last time I insured one
I guess for me it's not so much how much I'm willing to pay rather than how much I have to pay....I was paying $200 a month for two trucks and a car...got a ticket and it went up to $300 a month - too much!...shopped around and got it down to $180 - with the same company!!! Now it's down to just over $100 a month.
i started off paying fully comp which was about 700/yr bearing in mind i had no ncb and had just started riding a sportsbike at the age of 36 went down to tpf&t which ended up being about 400 i then renewd this year with a years no claims and asked them to take off my 30k a year commuting miles and it went down to 370 cos i paid it in instalments it went back up to 450 its all a complete fucking ballache/scam
oh and yes, you did read that right i got a 30 quid discount for a years no claims and 30,000 less miles a year
Up till 3 months ago I had a multibike. Policy £139 fully comprehensive. Which covered. The Daytona and a fireblade because of the weather and the fact I had hardly used the blade I sold it,my insurance fell to £132 now to anyone reading this that thinks that's cheap yeah it is but I passed my bike test in 1963 and my car test in1968. I have not had a car for 26yrs but 2 months ago I bought a 2002 mini one 1-6 now the insurance companies. Had me at there mercy well sir you haven't driven for 26 yrs and now you have retired you will have more time to drive,to cut along story short I stayed with my insurers Carole Nash on a 6 wheelpolicy one Daytona and the mini £695. ? £556 more than the two bikes and 5k less value I think they just make it up as they go.
