anyone else big on cycling???? i've been in to mtb for years now and been to the new forest several times but since doing the london to brighton bike ride last year seeing all the nice shiny road bikes i thought i'd jump ship and give it a go so here she is my other form of 2 wheeled transport

nothing 2 expensive i thought as if i like it and get used to it im gonna go for a better bike, so far i've had fun trying to remember that my feet are clipped in to the pedals

  2. When it snows, I pedal into work on my mountainbike. It's almost the only time I use it. But it can be fun riding in the snow, and it's a whole lot cheaper when you tumble on sheet ice!

Me!!!! - I love MTB riding,.. in fact I think one of my MTBs cost more than my Daytona!!! - Haven't been doing it anything like I used to - but my decision to go track-only is allowing me more time on the MTB ...& it helps immensely when on the bike, also!!

I've just bought a mountain bike to lose the weight I've put on since stopping smoke. Any of you learned types know how many miles I should be doing a day to lose weight. Obviously more than I'm doing at them moment which is about 5 miles every other day. :)

Just ramp up the miles slowly Stu, because you mentioned a mountain bike I don't know if your riding on the street or the dirt and the differences between the two are vast in terms of mileage...
...As I say, just build up slowly in terms of mileage and the frequency of your rides, that way you'll still enjoy it - also, consider some exercises to help with the weight loss - cycling isn't necessarily the best way to lose weight around the mid-riff. Resist the temptation to gorge after a long ride, kinda takes away from your goal.

I'm riding on the roads and avoiding the hills :) I'm still waiting to be finished at work then I'll have some time to do more but I need to build up some stamina.

used to cycle a lot and found that joining a local club helps. go out with the more 'mature' riders as rhey aint racing snakes and whippets. went out several times with the serious group who included national champs. they were rutheless. relished in the fact that they killed you off. try an hour every other night till your ass gets used to the saddle. then as the weather gets better go for an hour an a half. rhen two and also get a computer and up your pace and keep a kog.
