Hi all, Looking at doing the 1050 throttle mod soon so have decided I will get some new grips whilst i'm there. Anyone changed for Renthal grips before and can recommend the best ones to go for? Being Soft (light grey), Medium (dark grey) and Firm (black) I believe. Sounds stupid perhaps but I have always liked the looks of the grey coloured soft grips, looks racey However if they will wear out far too quick seems pointless. Any help response appreciated Cheers Conor
I've got the soft ones on my track bike, so much better than the Triumph grips. However you can see the wear on them and that's just with track use, personally I wouldn't go softer than the middle grips my mate has those on his track bike and there's no sign of wear after 3 yrs of use by him and they were fitted when he bought the bike, he's never said anything to me about getting softer grips so they appear to be fine for feel and grip.
Thanks for the quick replies guys think you have very quickly helped me make my decision on the Medium Renthals
Grip, for starters. Stock ones generally are a harder rubber mostly for a longer lifespan. When wet these can become sloppy whereas the rentals don't. They also stop fatigue in your hands from vibrations.
Renthal grips are awesome, I love the feel of the soft ones the most. Can't complain they wear out too quick, they're £8 a set!! Used the Fast Bikes and the medium ones and didn't really lke em as much.
Renthal grips are also thinner than stock and for me they were not suitable. I suffered for quite a long time with cramping in my right hand when racing which turned out to be because if te thinner grips. I now have quite thick BMX grips on the bike and my hands has not cramped since
I've run with renthal soft on a few bikes (road and track) and think they work dont wear out to fast but can start to look grubby after a bit. But your right they do look cool.
I have always run Renthal mediums. The grey ones .. It's usually one of the first jobs I do when I change the bike - the Daytona being no exception. It does mean shaving the ribs and flange (ooerr missus) from the throttle tube but it's still an easy job. Brake cleaner in the new grips assists fitting and leaves the grips stuck as though they were glued.
Do you mean those ridge bits that stick out that slot into the stock grips? I did wonder about those (good idea) when switching throttle tubes to do the 1050 mod and wondered how you'd go about putting the Renthals on.
Yeah, there are small ridges that run the length of the throttle tube, and a small flange that runs around the switch end for securing the OE grips. A sharp Stanley knife soon has 'em off. I then sanded the bits still left on throttle tube to make 'em completely smooth so the ridges dont show through the thinner Renthal grips.
