    Hi all,

Had a few problems with my bike over the last week including the engine management light coming on and it appears the ex-up valve is f*cked. Am currently waiting to go and get the 12k service at the end of the week to find out the extent.

Added to that i've been told i need a new chain and sprocket - £240 + VAT + fitting.

My question is, how long would you expect a chain to last?

I've done 14k since i bought the bike brand new last May.

Is this something i could claim under the warranty as a "manufacturing defect" or am i looking at £240+ every time i pass 14k miles?

    Cheers

    Red

    £240 + fitting for C&S?

Get a kit off ebay, did, or "B & C" for less than £150 and pay an independent £50 to fit it.

14k doesn't sound too bad, depends on maintenance. I've fooked a new chain in less than 10k due to a faulty scottoiler on the Falco.

I've got a spare aswell. Also free.

That's a lot of money for chain and sprockets. 150max inc fitting.

  5. Is the exup tits? or are the cables just loose?

they said they'd find out more when they service it but that was the diagnosis when it was wired up to the laptop

    cheer for all your replies

  8. just take the ex-up off mate, end of your trouble then and much cheaper.

  9. You could spray some silicone grease into the exup valve area, and after riding the m/c for a few days the light should clear. I did mine over a year ago and the light hasn't come back on, but if it does, spray the area again. I ride every working day to work unless the snow settles, so I know this lazy (and cheap) way of maintenance works without having to dismantle the valve. Sometimes the road salt gets into where you don't want it.

My original chain is on 16700, it looks OK, I've had a Scottie on since about 5K.

Does disabling the EXUP valve make any difference to pulling away at low revs?

    Re: Re: Chain/Sprocket

Yes but hardly noticable. Just give it a few more revs

  14. i've not noticed any real difference when commuting, definetly no worse than an il4 any way.

If you have the arrow or tor on the older bikes map fitted the exup opens straight away anyway youll here the difference after a couple of seconds starting

£240 + VAT + Fitting - thats about £350 !!! They are having your pants down buddy IMHO - talk about taking the pi55 tell them to go and fook em selves!!! As already said shop around you can get decent kit for less than £150 (even top end kit- AFAM X Ring and supersprox rear with a standard front is only £180 ish off ebay then a chain splitter/ riveter is £34 if you cant borrow one = £214 all in) Fit them yourself it is not hard and once you have done it once you will never look back and certainly not have your arse smacked again!!!
