OK - Santa brought me a OBD-USB lead for Crimbo so I have been playing.

1st - turn the sodding exup valve thing off,
2nd - load a suitable map for Scorpion slip on 'race pipe' and BMC panel filter (after scratching around I used the 20404 map which seemed to be the preferred for most aftermarket slip on cans - anyone agree/disagree with this?)
3rd - Reset adaptions.

The map went in ok, the exup valvy thing no longer squeaks, groans and triggers the MIL light at random intervals and the power delivery/torque is soooooo much smoother!
The random thing is he wont start 1st time (always has in the past) The starter spins the motor fine but as soon as it hints at catching the starter stops, this results in not being able to hit the starter again for about 10 sec while the ecu realises that the engine actually isn't running. Go through this 1 or 2 times and he eventually starts ok.

Reload the original map and all is well.

Question.
Is anyone else out there running this map with tune ecu and having this problem or similar? Any suggestions to 'tweek' the map (I am assuming there is something different to cause this??)
I don't actually mind going through this if it is for the greater good of power and rideability but if I am stupid enough to stall it I will feel a right t!t when I cant restart it at the traffic light grand prix!

Have you reset the TPS throttle position sensor?

I have a similar problem no matter what map i run except the standard one. However i find if u give it a tiny bit of throttle when turning it over it usually starts first time iv noticed its worse this time of year though

Do you mean have I reset the throttle adaptions? If you do then yes I have (click on the reset adaption icon, ignition on off etc...wait for the box at the bottom to go green etc)
Or is ther another setup procedure you can recommend?
I haven't tried giving it a little throttle - ill try it tomorrow and see how it goes. It's weird I can tell there isn't quite enough crank time after the engine fires but I can't explain how I can tell.....it just sounds different!

Just found this - sounds a lot like my issue after having a similar map loaded.......

https://www.675.cc/675/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5191

My guess there is something in the map that won't allow a large enough overlap from the starter cranking and the engine firing?
It seems to start fine with a little throttle as suggested above but I like things to work as intended!

Anyone got suggestions what this might be or what I can check in the map??

i probally wouldnt play with the map unless you really know what your doing with it. My thinking is that the edited maps perhaps dont allow enough fuel on starting hence why the throttle helps mine turns over for the same time as the standard map just wont always start out of interest what year is your bike? mines an early 06 i think in the spring im going to have mine mapped again on a dyno get it properly dialed in.

I have looked at the map with the compare feature on Tune Ecu and there are significant differences between the 2 at low rpm and zero throttle input.
I won't be fiddling unless I get some solid confident advise - my pool bike is already on its 2nd motor from the previous owner thanks to the local 'approved' Dynojet tuner (so he said) who was armed with a Dyno and a PC3, they thought a high level BMW system could be bodge fitted and the PC3 tuned to suit...long story short 30kms after the 'tune' a conrod made a successful bid for freedom through the bore because it was running way too lean!

My bike is an 07 with a motor of unknown age or origin from eBay! And yes I do have 'Sucker' tattooed onto my forehead!

9. I would suggest getting it dyno in or take it to your local triumph dealer they charge £34 inc vat for mapping and if there is any errors they will put it right my first Daytona was a 2009 se running an old map they remapped it to incorporate my two brothers exhaust and it ran sweet as after that at least that way if the dealer has put the map on they're responsible for it

Ok, I'm no expert but here's my 2p

When you pop in the 'original' map she starts fine. What number original map is that?

Have you tried the other Slip On maps, just to test? Or tried it with the Exup enabled, just to test?

It could be that it needs either: 20420 or 20423

I take no responsibility for errors etc, just a thought!!

I don't know what the original map is - there is no reference number on it - just says VIN X to X.....stock silencer. I am going to assume that as it has PC3 fitted from new the map was supplied at the factory, also as the previous owner was a self confessed spanner virgin he wouldn't have attempted this!
I haven't tried any other slip on maps - as far as i can tell the 20404 is the only current map for my VIN range unless i try an obsolete one??

Gankmasterflex - I would dearly love to take it to a dealer for a proper tune but I have no dealer within 1000 miles (I live in Dubai - nearest dealer is Qatar which involves a ride through Saudi.....not my idea of fun!!!) The only choice I have locally is the git who cocked the map up last time and blew it up!!

For your amusement I did have 'that' blonde moment this morning - filtered through to the front of the traffic queue - green light - stall it - cock!! (Post new yr dopyness i guess?!?) then failure to restart as the cars blast past laughing at the knob who pushed in front! Not ideal at all....

Man, It sounds like we really need to help you put this right, quicktime. Some of the guys on here seem pretty clued up with the mapping, so hopefully they’ll post up soon???

Update....

I have tried a few maps now and have found the following fyi.

20404 - Dodgy starting, excellent power delivery, engine is silky smooth with no significant flat spots - no vibrations
20578 - (Indicated as current stock map with stock can)using the compare feature looks identical to stock map, Epic flat spot between 4 and 5k, starts fine, engine feels rough and vibey.
20208 - (Obsolete map for slip on can, predecessor to 20404 - using map compare looks identical to 20404) Flat spot between 4 and 5k, starts 50% better but still likes a little throttle, i'd say 50% smoother than 20578 but not as smooth as 20404

So I am still none the wiser what controls the startup. The maps look identical to other maps I have used on the map compare feature on Tuneecu but are very different in performance and feel , evidently there are somethings hidden in the map that i cant access or see. From my understanding these are all Triumph written and approved maps - maybe someone can correct me if i am wrong?

14. Not meaning to high jack this thread but I did a remap yesterday and reset the tps but after 20mins on idle still no green light. Any ideas? Seems to run ok, though not ridden yet. The map I've got isnt any of the ones mentioned above. Think it may be custom one.

15. Ah sorry my bad classic case of epic location fail :?

Hmm with regards to mapping for scorpion cans why don't you PM Craig with a question for Tony Scott who is doing a Q and A evening on here next Tuesday night at 8PM GMT Tony runs T3 racing and all the bikes in the Triumph Triple Challenge and IIRC they all run Scorpion cans so he might be able to tell you the exact map or at least give you a selection to try? I know that isn't much help immediately but if you can wait a week then pop the original map back on and then pick Tony's brains when he comes on line next week.

Hope that helps?

16. Or ask of they can e-mail the map to the dude that did the upload to sort your bike?

Since I have been buggering about with maps I have done several adaption resets, some of them happen quickly say 5 min, some have taken 20 min+ a few times the bloody PC has crashed and I have to start again.
I would plug in and reset again, you can do the old non PC way and run the engine until the fan chimes in, leave it ticking over for 12 min and switch it off. It is vital you don't touch the throttle at any point with either method or it will bugger it and you will need to start over.
My problem is it won't start most times without a teeny but of gas because of the map issue, that ruins the adaption setup! Grrrrr!

good idea, I'll do that.....the can is off a T3 TTC bike that is raced locally so he should be familiar with it.
