I took one of the Daytonas to North Oxford BMW and threatened it with its potential new garage mate unless it started to behave itself. It didn't. Bloody bike.
What happened to that ??? I'll go and have a look in my stash Janey, see if I have a spare indicator amongst my lighting bits...
It's just a bit of age catching up with it. That old age sag happens to us all at some point I've ordered a set of four new stalks off eBay to change all of them, so no need to go delving into your bits just for me. Thank you for the offer though x
Look good on that, was it a serious test or just window shopping, I've only ever ridden an early Gen 2 way back, completely different bike. No doubt a very capable bike but i just can't get on with the looks, even more so the M, Actually starting to appreciate the cleaner angular design of the Gen 1 & 2, I don't need all the gizmo's on the new bikes. Broken indicator is a good excuse for some lovely (but expensive) triumph LED's, or a freebie off @StMarks
It's a serious... Maybe. I've got a test on the MV Agusta F3 next weekend, and it'll probably be one or tother. I'm not 100% sold on the BMWs looks, either. But it's a phenomenal bike and it'd still look fabulous in the garage (and as unused as my other bikes).
I'm just back fro my rummaging mate, a,aaaa,,aaaachoo....! blinking dust... So pleased you've ordered some, because it would appear I have none left after all.. (actually I sort of recall posting them all out to another member a while back, I think). Anyway, you young whippersnapper, what's this you're insinuating about the payoff for accrued maturity, being a resultant tendency to,, urmm,, "droop" ?? I'll have you know Janey, I can categorically assure you with 100% certainty that has NOT been my experience... Nope, not in my case.: I'll have you know I've tended to be droopy, since I was very young.!
You get a girl's hopes up with your promises of new stalks, and then, boooooom, you confess that you've given the last of your non saggy bits to someone else. #heartbroken.
I had a blast on the bike out to have a browse around the local bike shop, nice to get out Sent from my iPhone using 675.cc
Was that on the RR, waiting to see one out in the wild but not happened yet, must be quite rare. Owning a bike that hasn't sold in great numbers can either make you feel special, or concerned, I prefer the former.
Yeah, it was, it’s a great bike, but just slightly let down in that the suspension damping is set way too hard with not enough scope in the auto modes to adjust, also it’s taken me 1500 miles to get my gearbox bedded in to a point where it feels nice. It’s smooth though, seriously grunty and stunningly built, it really is. I tried to upload a pic, but for some reason the app isn’t letting me upload pics Edit! Uploaded from the desktop app. Unfortunately my other baby isn’t even getting touched at the moment! Not even MOT’d. I rode it once back in Feb. Sent from my iPhone using 675.cc
First trip up to the Yorkshire Dales for me today. Tend not to take the Daytona up there as it encourages me to push on a bit more which can (and has for me) end badly, try to ride well within my limits, use the torque on the Thruxton and enjoy the scenery.
i had a run to Windermere yesterday dont know why i go there to be honest its only about a hour from where i live but the traffic from Ambleside to Windermere is always a nightmare and as most will know under seat exhaust and stop start traffic is not nice
Installed the new bar end & gb racing engine casings & then nipped off early for lunch for a 2.5hr shakedown ride to the outlaws in Aberystwyth via some of the mid wales wilderness that makes you feel like you’re in far north Scotland. Oh - and remembered that while I’ve put in a sigma slipper clutch, it’s not an autoblipper anymore & the clutch is still needed for downshifts… Love being back on a sportsbike
New bike looks great, as does the scenery, never had a bike with autoblipper but i quite like the satisfaction of doing it myself, its all part of the interaction with a bike, at my age now I prefer automatic cars but wouldn't want an automatic bike, weirdly like quickshifters though Keep telling myself i need to find new roads and destinations, always seem to go to the same places, can you recommend any nice scenic routes, not too far down given I'm coming from the north.
Sure - if you can make it down to mid Wales, then the pics in the previous post are from the mountains on the B4581 Llanidloes-Machynlleth. The above one is my old 675r from Capel Celyn The whole A470/A44 route to Aberystwyth is my usual route & you can head back north via Mach & Corris on the A487 - or do the coast road to Harlech A493. For the north & heading towards Snowdonia, from Bala the Fron Goch A4212 to Capel Celyn is scenic, but take the B4391 over the moors towards Penmachno, then you’re on the A5 to Capel Curig, turn off there onto the A4086 via Pen-y-pass and through to Caernarfon - stop at the Anglesey Arms right by the castle for harbour side lunch return back SE via the A4085 towards beddgellert to follow the mountain railway route, then head onto the A470, B4391, B4407 towards ysbyty Ifan & then the A453 towards Denbigh & Ruthin. fwiw - the majority of that route is doable in a day’s riding from Cardiff if you set off early/get home late & don’t stop too often/too long. I sometimes do that, but stop in Aberystwyth.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'll definitely have a look at those on Google maps to get my bearings, my welsh geography isn't great. I'm guessing midweek would be best especially during the summer, I'd need to get my arse in gear and set off early, are the speed limits and police presence as bad as people make out? Llangollen is the furthest I've been on the bike, I know that's not very far south, and used to do the coast road around to Anglesey circuit back in my car days. Although at a quick glance mid wales for me distance wise is not much different than going north up to the Yorkshire Dales which I did the other week. Thanks again
no worries - yep get the google maps out & you’ll figure out a route that suits you best - avoid the straight roads, follow the squiggly ones & don’t be afraid of the odd b-road, especially in the mountains to use as a cut through. Weekdays is good, but Saturday/Sunday you’ll get an aching neck from nodding at all the other bikers - Petrol is widely available, except after 6pm when some of the smaller village stations shut. Re speed cameras/limits - I’ll admit to being one of the 450,000 who signed the petition against the default 20’s - most people ignore them on the A roads and will still do 30, being on a bike they can’t see a forward facing plate So just go with the flow, keep an eye open for cameras. out of the villages/towns, there are a few average cameras, but these are signposted. Most bikes make progress just fine - I’ve been pulled over twice in 14yrs of riding in Wales, both times within 30mi of Cardiff, The roads are quite technical/undulating, so read the road constantly looking closing/opening corners, when the double lines come in & be prepared for the odd hairpin/bad surface/sheep/caravan/tractor round that bend, just like you would in Yorkshire - and enjoy
Word of advise that was given to me by a local in Wales, if a sheep is out in the road and you come upon it, aim the bike for the sheeps rear, turns out the little fluffy sods only go forwards when spooked so if you aim for the backside they'll dart forward. Not had to test this yet but worth knowing as sheep in Wales do like to venture onto the roads like they own them when you're in the mountains or areas that they're roaming.
