Hi folks, first of all, apologies if I don't get the jargon right, i'm still quite new to this. I'm looking for a late D675, under seat exhaust model. I'm quite picky about the colour scheme I'm after - I'm looking for solid red, with the black lower fairing. In fact, exactly like this... Actually, this is the exact bike i'm looking at, from superbike factory in Macclesfield. There are only 2 bikes currently for sale in the UK that tick all my boxes, and this one seems to be the better and cheaper of the two. Pretty much immaculate, 12,000 miles, 2 owners, Arrow can, Fresh MOT, just under 5 grand. Only downside is there is no service history with it, Now I'm happy to give it a full service myself if I buy it, but would this put anyone off? Also, would it be due a 'big' service soon? like valve clearances etc? would be worth knowing as If I do go for it, I may be able to factor that into a bit of a deal on the price. Just a separate note, does anyone recognise this bike or happen to know of it's history? its a '62 plate that ends in NOF. Many thanks, Lew.
Not a bad price to be fair. Worth asking if they would reduce the cost of the bike by a little bit to allow you to get the big service done unless they are willing to do it for you?
12k is the valve clearance service interval, so it's due if not done. if you will be servicing it yourself, is that including valve clearances?, then you will not be keeping a dealer service history going with the bike anyway, and the previous owner may well have been doing the same? will never know. When people do their own servicing, service history becomes irrelevant, regardless of competency, regardless of proof, e.g. receipts etc. even with a service history, there are some shocking dealers out there that my not have done everything on the list anyway, so i think you will just have to go along, have a look, listen, ride, and go with what you feel. wouldn't put me off.
+1 with cpszx. Looks a nice bike and with some nice mods already - arrow, tail tidy, LED indies. Best to go see what it looks and sounds like.
Hes left now Jimmy Personally the service history wouldn't put me completely off, what does though and anybody correct me if i'm wrong but that clutch cover looks like an earlier one, 62 plate is 2012 isn't it so should have the triumph logo cast on the side? could have been dropped I don't know but I'd pay extra attention to that side of the bike for any signs of damage.
Do you mean the it had no service history book with it or the history book is their but has no stamps in it? If it’s missing then call a local triumph dealer & enquire what service have been completed by their dealer network& recorded on the triumph data base. I always do this when the books not present. If it does turn out that it’s just the book been misplaced you can purchase a new one & get it stamped accordingly, Only prob with this is that only the dealer that carried out the work can stamp the appropriate stamps. Just means posting it off to them or going on a few ride outs lol
Thanks for the help, chaps. To answer the above post, it doesn't have any history (paperwork) with it, no receipts or invoices. Just the 2 keys and the V5. I had a friend who lives local go and have a look at it today (I'm 200+ miles away in Scotland) and he sent me 35 close up pics. It doesn't look like a 'fair weather only' bike. there is a fair bit of corrosion on some aluminium suspension parts etc. There are quite a few stone chips and a few scratches as well. Maybe I'm just being too picky. It is a 6 year old bike I suppose. But to be fair, I'm also looking at a Ducati 848 that the seller says the condition has to be "seen to be believed" it's that good, and that's a 2009 bike which does look in very good shape. Ahhh. Decisions decisions!
So here is a few of the pictures my friend took. I know modern phones are very good at capturing detail so I don't know if im just being fussy. Do you think this is OK for a 12,000 mile six year old bike? He also said the paint looks a bit 'faded' on the tank/tail. I don't know if that's because it need a good polish/clean though. I really like this bike!
Defo mate. Just from the pics I wouldn’t bother (but that’s me).... unless you got it for a bargain price where you have cash available so you can put it right. FWIW when looking at bikes, cars etc, I tend to think if people can’t be bothered with the outside then they are likely not to have been bothered about the inside either. Which can equals headaches!!!
Again, thanks for your replies. You're very probably right. I have the cash waiting, but I'm not in any mad rush to get a bike. I'm also aware that January can be a time to pick up bargains as the trade picks up come spring time. Looks like this isn't the one though. Hate to be a traitor to the forum but I have this Ducati 848 to look at tomorrow which sounds promising. At least it's relatively local so I can look at it personally... 2009, 10,000 miles, full Ducati service history. All in, because I don't need delivery, it'll work out about £500 more than the D675. Im more indecisive than a woman.
Have to say that 675 is a bit of a mess, mines 8 years old soon, 2011 and has about 5k on it, it’s in better nick. I had a red one, and now love my blue. May sell it in the summer as I fancy a boxer.
That does look a bit tatty for the money, lack of history and big service due etc. Have you actually ridden either the Daytona or 848? I had an 848 evo before the Daytona and they are very different to ride!
I have to admit, I haven’t rode either. I’m purely going on the probably hundreds of reviews, group tests, YouTube videos and magazine head to head tests I’ve been looking at for the past year. I understand you’ll find it hard to find anything negative said a about either of those bikes, but what was your views, having lived with both?
Fyi @Phill748 had one for a year mate.: https://www.675.cc/675/threads/switching-back-on-saturday.26140/#post-347359
Hi all, bit late to the party! I have an 848 Evo now but I’ve had two and I’ve had 2 Daytona’s also so more than happy to chat with you about the pro’s and cons of each! PM me if you want or post here but yeah they are very different!!!
